Chef .
SUMMARY
The career that I chose is to become a Chef . They are responsible for handling the preparation of food or meals. They are usually promoted from the lower position from a trainee Chef or kitchen assistant . There are several types of chefs , there is a Commis Chef , Section Chef , Sous Chef , Head Chef and Executive Head Chef . The higher your position is , the more you are paid and the more responsible you have. To become a Chef you need to have the following skills ; leadership , time management , multitasking , managing budgets , food preparation and presentation and many more. Chefs spends of the time on their feet, doing multiple task at a time and lifting heavy pots and pans. The kitchen is typically hot, humid , and hectic . Chefs does not have a regular 9 to 5 daily schedule . Most work lunch and or dinner shifts . A shift is usually between 5 and 7 hours and double shifts may last 12 hours . Salaries of a Chef depends on experience , reputation and whether the Chef works part time or full-time . Canadian chef's average income range from $35,00 to $40,000 a year. Full time chefs make up $75,000 a year . Those who own a restaurant can earn $100,000 a year . Job prospects for chefs are really low in B.C. at this moment. Finding this occupation is very limited , chefs may only be seasonal . If their employer's business is closed at certain times of the year , a chef does not have work . Most chefs have completed some form of post secondary culinary training. An apprenticeship programs is a good way to learn many skills to become a chef. Apprenticeship generally last 3 years with combine classroom instruction with on-the-job training, additional 5 years of work experience is needed for a better security for this job .
WHY I CHOOSE THIS CAREER
I am interested in this career because I enjoy being in the kitchen , cooking food and creating a new cuisine. For me making food is like doing art , you have to sort of play with the colors , textures and substance to be able to create a real art or in this case making a delicious meal and that is something that I really love to do . I think I am suitable for this career because I am capable of preparing and cooking meals and I have the ability to multitask and managing budget . I also think that my personality suits a chef because I am creative and i have the desire to keep learning .
FINAL THOUGHTS
The final thoughts that concerns me is that , will I have a stable job once I become a Chef , since right now the job prospect for this career is really low at this time . I can see myself pursuing this career because this is something that I'm really good and I am passionate about and it's something that I really want to become . It's a long process to become a chef , but I don't mind . As long as a become a Chef I am good .:)
